Current control work is compared to an optimal achievable or a best theoretical work of a control loop by means of Harris index and a generalized output index. System behaviour of a typical temperature loop is investigated for proportional, PI and PID controllers and a system with on-off control. Conclusions for the applicability of the proposed methodologies are made. Both indices are compared for the different control methodologies.
