Flash point of organic binary mixtures containing alcohols: Experiment and prediction
    (2013-03-01) Hristova M.; Damgaliev D.
The flash points of three organic binary mixtures containing alcohols were measured in the present work. The experimental data was obtained using the Pensky-Martens closed cup tester. The experimental data were compared with the values calculated by the Liaw model. Activity coefficients were calculated by the Wilson equation and NRTL equation. The accuracy of predicted flash point values is dependent on the thermodynamic model used for activity coefficient. © 2012 Versita Warsaw and Springer-Verlag Wien.

Measurement and prediction of binary mixture flash point
    (2013-01-01) Hristova M.
The flash points of three binary mixtures, containing n-heptane, o-xylene, m-xylene and ethylbenzene, were measured by Pensky-Martens closed cup tester. The experimental data were compared with the calculated values using Liaw's Model with the application of Raoult's Law and Wilson equation. These equations were in good qualitative agreement. © 2012 Versita Warsaw and Springer-Verlag Wien.

Practical data correlation of flashpoints of binary mixtures by a reciprocal function: The concept and numerical examples
    (2011-12-01) Hristova M.; Damgaliev D.; Hristov J.
Simple data correlation of flashpoint data of binary mixture has been developed on the basis of rational reciprocal function. The new approximation requires has only two coefficients and needs the flashpoint temperature of the pure flammable component to be known. The approximation has been tested by literature data concerning aqueous-alcohol solution and compared to calculations performed by several thermodynamic models predicting flashpoint temperatures. The suggested approximation provides accuracy comparable and to some extent better than that of the thermodynamic methods.

Straightforward dimensionless experimental formulae for flash point of binary mixtures of two flammable components
    (2012-01-01) Hristova M.; Damgaliev D.; Hristov J.
Dimensionless experimental formulae based on a rational reciprocal function for correlation of flashpoint data of binary mixtures of two flammable components have been developed. The formulae are based on data obtained from flash-point experiments. The proposed approach requires only two coefficients, molar fraction of components and flashpoint temperatures of the pure flammable components to be known in advance. Literature data were used for formulae verification and validation obtained results indicate that accuracy is comparable and to some extent better than that of conventional flash point prediction models. Dimensional analysis and scaling of data have been performed in order to define the correct construction of the equation fitting flash-point data in dimensionless form using the independent variables suggested by Catoire. Stefan number relevant flash-point of a single compound or a blend has been defined.
