To maximize the profit made by the enterprise the authors suggest using the retrospective design, which enables assessing the efficiency of the business process reengineering in metallurgy. Consideration is given to the main trends in design and business process analysis aimed at reaching lower cost of production in the automated ``furnaces - hot strip mill`` complexes. © 2009 IFAC.
