For the SEE countries the biomass utilization is of growing interest. In the paper a redesign of small-scale pellet production plant control system is considered. Special attention is paid to develop a new method for estimation and prediction a degradation level of most loaded elements in extruding part. A residual useful life (RUL) based method for condition based maintenance (CBM) is proposed as a new additional functionality of re-designed supervised control system. It is shown that incremental re-design is preferable. Different methods for decision making in re-designed control system are considered. Copyright © 2013 IFAC.
